Hello everyone and welcome to day 2 of the Love Song Blog Hop. This is where you will see projects inspired by favorite love songs!! How fun does that sound, especially with Valentines Day being just a couple of days away. If you joined us from Court at Cout's Craft Corner, then you are in the right place. If ou just happened by or would like to start the hop at the beginning then hop on over to Paper Crafting World's Cooking With Cricut and see what Melin has cooked up for you today.
When I found out about a love song blog hop, it was less than a moment's time when my favorite came to mind. It is O Mio Babbino Caro, ("O My Beloved Father"),a soprano aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini to a libretto by Giovacchino Forzano. It is sung by Lauretta when her father, Schicchi and the family of the boy she loves, Runiccio, are in conflict. Her father threatens to take her away to separate her from Runiccio. It is at this moment she sings this beautiful to her father begging him not to take her away.
O mio babbino caro,
Mi piace, e bello bello,
Vo andare in porta rossa
A comperar l anello!
Si, si ci voglio andare
E se l amassi indarno
Andrei sui ponte vecchio
Ma per buttaarmi in arno!
Mi struggo e mi tormento!
O dio, vorrei morir!
Babbo, pieta, pieta!
Babbo, pieta, pieta!
The English Translation
Oh my beloved daddy
I love him he's so handsome
I would go to Porta Rossa
To buy the ring
Yes, yes, I love him
And if my love was in vain
I would go to the old bridge
And throw myself in the Arno
I fret and suffer torments
Oh god, I'd rather die
Daddy have pity, have pity
Daddy have pity, have pity
Now that you know my favorite love song and the words, here is my card.
The setting of the opera is Florence Italy. So I wanted the base mat to reflect the color of the tile roofs of the old city.
The bridge on the card, cut from the EVERYDAY PAPER DOLLS cartridge, is representative of Porte Vecchio.
The teal mat represents the River Arno.
And the pink mat is there because I sang this aria in a gorgeous pink gown at my Senior Recital in college. It was a day I had worked long and hard for. O MIO BABBINO CARO was the encore. It is a day I will never forget. And I will have to give a big THANK YOU to my Aunt Elizabeth, who studied voice and opera at the Conservatory of Music in Birmingham Al. When she heard that I was majoring in music in college, she gave me all of her sheet music. I have kept it as a family treasure. My Aunt Elizabeth died sixteen years ago. If she were alive today, she too would love this card.
The heart border was cut with a Martha Stewart punch. The little flowers are from K&Company. And the sentiment is cut from one of m favorite cartridges, QUARTER NOTE.
While many a soprano has sung this beautiful song, my favorite to hear is the late great Maria Callas. I hope you too will enjoy her lovely voice.
Now it is time for you to hop on over to Evelyn at My Little Craft Bug. Enjoy the hop and enjoy the music!
