Cooking With Cricut #60

Welcome to this weeks Cooking With Cricut Challenge.  The theme this week is TURKEY TALK.  The project I created will certainly bring about some talk about turkeys.  It is not your typical turkey and it is not my typical style.  It comes from another part of my personality.  So, I'l say no more and just show you.

This is my version of the words "Turkey and Dressing".  The turkey is cut from the Create a Critter cartridge.  And her lovely crown, dress and shoes are from the Paper Doll Dress Up.  I added some "style" to her dress and shoes with some gems and glitter glue.  And did the same as well to her crown.  

After I had her all put together on the card, I could not decide what she looked like.  Maybe a show-girl, clypso dancer, street walker, or someone going out on Halloween.  What ever it is, she is "dressed for the ocassion". 

The sentiment, i created on the computer.  The brown paper is from my stash and all other paper is from My Mind's Eye.  The turkey's face is stamped with a Peachy Keen Stamp.

Fantabulous Cricut Harvest Blessings Crawl

Welcome to A Little Bit Of Detail and the Fantabulous Cricut Harvest Blessings Crawl...Fantabulous Cricut's version of a Blog Hop!  Its Fall and everyone at Fantabulous Cricut has decided to create projects to give thanks for our Harvest Blessings!  Each Design Team member will be featuring an original Fall project that includes Brown  Orange  and  Red - along with at least one Cricut cut.

I created a card using the Celebrate With Flourish cartridge to cut the turkey and the pumpkin.  The card base is ivory and inked in brown.  It has a brown mat that has been inked in gold.  The top mat is a beautiful striped paper from K&Co.  I used a Fiskars corner punch and embossed the paper then inked it with bronze.   over the embossing with bronze.  The pumpkin and turkey are both inked with brown and bronze as well.  I used recollection gems to enhance the turkey feathers.  

The beautiful sentiment is from the Scripture Sayings stamp set from K Andrew Designs.  Kristal's stamps are amazing.  They are made in the USA of the highest quality.  And a portion on the proceeds from the sale of each stamp set goes to charity.  You can read about each of the charities that are supported by the sale of Kristal's stamps HERE.  

I inked around the sentiment with brown ink and then completed the card with a beautiful vanilla crinkle ribbon.

Give Thanks is the theme this week at My Sheri Crafts  When deciding on what to do for this project, I turned to the Thanksgiving cartridge.  When I saw the pie, I knew that was what I would use.  A few weeks ago I noticed the pies on a shelf in the Speaking of Fall cartridge.  At the time I just could not come up with an idea for using them.  But when I saw the thanksgiving pie, I knew I had it!!

Isn't the little shelf with the pies on it so cute!!  The cute actually has three shelves.  but I only need two so I just cut one of them off.  The large steaming hot pie comes from the Thanksgiving cartridge.  I used paper from K&Co to create the pies.  The pie shelf and background paper are from Core Directions.  The background paper was embossed  and then filed to expose the core.  The ribbon on the bottom of the card and the buttons  are from Hobby Lobby.  The sentiment is from  the Scripture Sayings stamp set from K Andrew Designs.  These stamps are wonderful.  They are of the highest quality and Made in the USA! There is a donation from the sale of each stamp set to a designated charity.

Cooking With Cricut Challenge #59

It is time for a new challenge at Cooking With Cricut.  This week the challenge is Fruits, Cornucopia, Harvest \Time.

This is the card I made for the challenge.  I really enjoyed making the card because it just reminded me of all the wonderful things I love about this time of year.  When i see a cornucopia I like most everyone think of Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it is when families come together to eat, enjoy each others company, reflect on times together, and give thanks for all their many blessings.  And the best thing about it, is it does not involve buying a lot of gifts, decorating, and losing sight of the meaningof theholiday.  

The cornucopia was cut from the Speaking of Fall cartridge.  The pear was cut from the Just Because cartridge and the sunflowers were cut from Stretch Your Imagination.  All of the paper I used to creat the card came right out of my stash drawers.  I used alot of bronze and copper ink on the cornucopia and sunflowers.  I did this to help give the card a warm look.  The sunflowers centers were given a little sparkle with brown glitter glue.  

The beautiful sentiment is from the Fall-o-ween stamp set from K Andrew Designs.  These made in the USA stamps, are just wonderful and a portion of the proceeds from the stamps go to charity.

Lets Honor Our Veterans

This week we are going to take a day to honor our Veterans.  I cannot think of anyone more deserving than to honor those who have put their life on the line to protect and preserve our country.  My daddy is one of those brave people.  As a teenager, he, like many others left high school, lied about his age, and joined the US Military.  My daddy joined the US Marines Corp.  He left Alabama for Camp Pendleton.  There he trained with many other young men, or what we would probably call boys, for one of the biggest wars this county will ever see.  My daddy served the Marines in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  He was critically injured on Guam. Hit by mortar shell, blown over 30 feet in the air, his military career ended.  He was hospitalized for over a year.  But as I have stated in a precious post, he says what happen to him on Guam saved his life.  After Guam, his unit went to Iwo Jima where few survived.

We are not only celebrating Veterans Day this week.  We are celebrating my daddy's birthday and the US Marines Corp birthday.  My daddy is so proud that he shares the same birthday with the Marines.  As it is said, Once a Marine, Always a Marine", and my daddy is a true example of that.  His truck has the emblem on it.  He flies the Marine Corp flag along with he US flag at his house every day.  And he always wears a Marine Corp cap when he goes out.  He even wears the emblem, a small lapel pin, on his coat, when he goes to church.  This Thursday, November 10th my daddy will be 88 years old.  And the Marine Corp will be  236 years old.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!  Here is a card for my daddy wishing him and the Marines a Happy Birthday and Veterans Day.

I used the Stand and Salute Cartridge for the three stars at the top.  The stars were inked in gold and a sparkled sticker star was placed in the meddle if each star.  The words were cut from Plantin Schoolbook cartridge.  I used paper from K&Company to create the card.  And here is the inside of the card.

The photo was taken in 2008 when I accompanied daddy and a large group of WWII Veterans to Washington DC on the Honor Flight.  This was truly one of the best days of my life.  Just to be in the presence of all of those men was a true honor.

The work of art was done by a local artist, Dr. Don Stewart.  He did this to honor the US Marine Corp on their birthday last year.  He presented it to the Marines during their birthday party, at the US Marine Corp Museum.  You can see photos of the event HERE  The large drawing is made of many small drawings that tell the history of the Marine Corp.  Last year I gave my dad a signed print of this work for Christmas.  Don wrote, To Tommy Wilson,  Happy Birthday, and Thank You for your service".

For the Book Lover at Fantabulous Cricut

This is my first post as a member of the Fantabulous Cricut DT.  And oh how excited I am.  This week the challenge is FOR THE BOOK LOVER.  Well, that is me!!  I love to read and I love to teach reading.  Which is part of what I do everyday.  I teach kindergarten and have the pleasure of reading to children everyday.  It is so much fun to see their reaction to a book and hear their feedback.  Even though I have read some of the same books year after year to my classes, I still relish in the reading and their comments. And it is amazing how young children can gain so many different things from a story.  The children are like sponges and can't wait to be reading independently.

I love to give the children a book as part of their Christmas gift.. This year, instead of buying bookmarks for their books, I have made them.  Here are a few of the bookmarks.

Aren't they just so much fun.  These little bookmarks were cut with the George and Basic Shapes cartridge.  I cut the snowflakes with the Winter Lace cartridge and attached them to the top of the bookmarks.  The little snowmen, I found at Hobby Lobby.  They are just perfect because they are so cute and shiny, and yet the back of them are flat.  This makes it perfect for them to be attached to the snowflake.  After adding the snowmen, I attached some little gems to the snowflakes for the bling!  

The little snowmen have a small gold thread attached to them.  So the children can hang their bookmarks on a Christmas tree as an ornament as well as use them in their books.  Pretty neat!

Cooking With Cricut Challenge #58

This week we have another great challenge at Cooking With Cricut.  The challenge is to create a project  with your cricut using a clock, cookies or cookie monster.  How fun is that!!!

I made this card using the Sentimentals cartridge for the hands and the George and Basic Shapes cartridge for the stars.  The cookie sheet is a piece of silver cardstock from AC Specialty.  I just cut a rectangle shape that would hold the six stars and then scored the ends to fold up.  The stars are made with ivory and pink cardstock from Colorbok.  I inked the edges with bronze to make the cookies have a "baked" look to them.  I then used some white Martha Stewart glitter on the tops to create the sugar on the cookies.  The hands were made with paper from The Paper Studio.  All other paper, along with the chocolate chip cookie and the "Yum" stickers are also from The Paper Studio.  I found this paper stack this past summer at Hobby Lobby and fell in love with it.  I knew I would have many uses for it.  It has all kinds of cute designed paper and solids to match.  The stack included the cutest stickers and alphabet.  

Now for the inside of the card.

I used the other half of the chocolate chip cookie sticker and created the sentiment on the computer.  Isn't it the perfect sentiment for this card.  "A well balanced diet is a COOKIE in both hands".  I believe it!!
