Color and Sketch Challenge

Here is a card I made for a couple of challenges this week.  First there is a color challenge going on at Cr84fn Color challenge.  Here is the inspiration for the challenge.

And the sketch challenge is from Mojo Monday.  And here is the sketch this week for the challenge.

And now, here is my card.  First, let me say that I will be mailing this card in the morning to a friend whose mother died suddenly last week.  I was unable to leave town last week to go to the funeral, so I wanted to let her know with a special card that she is in my prayers.    

The papers I used are from K&Co and My Mind's Eye.  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the coral paper and then inked it with  bronze.  All of the paper edges were inked in brown.  The sentiment is from Just Rite Stampers.  I used oval scallop dies from Spellbinders to cut and emboss the sentiment labels.   For a little extra embellishment, I added a butterfly dimensional sticker from Studio112 and some little pearls from Recollections.

National Ice Cream Month

Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month?  Well, it is and I can't think of any thing better to celebrate this month.  The new challenge this week at My Sheri Crafts all about ice cream!  Make a project that includes ice cream.

Here is my card.  I used the Cricut cartridge SWEET SHOPPE to cut the ice cream cones.  Both cones were embossed with a Cuttlebug folder.

  The little mint chocolate chip cone has some little brown glass beads added for the chocolate chips.

 The larger Strawberry cone is a shaker cone.  I created it on mu Gypsy by inserting a smaller scoop of ice cream inside the larger scoop.  This created a frame.  I cut a piece of the clear plastic that a Cricut cartridge had come in, the size and shape of the ice cream.  I used used 3D Crystal Lacquer to attach it to the ice cream frame.  I then cut two layers of foam tape  and attached it to the frame.  Before attaching it to the ice cream cone base, I poured some little red glass beads in it.  I also used a little strawberry pink chalk on the ice cream.

The ice cream sundae is also a cut from  the SWEET SHOPPE cartridge. I added Glossy Accents to the hot fudge.  And to the cherry on top, I added red Stickles.  

The sentiment is a combination of stamps from K Andrew Designs.  I used a Momento Rich Cocoa ink pad for the sentiment.   I just thought it was perfect for this sweet little card with all these little goodies sprinkled on top.  I used the Spellbinder Classic Scallop Rectangle to cut and emboss the sentiment label. The edges were inked in pink and brown and the corners were topped with blue and yellow gems.  

The right edge border was created with a MS border punch.  I topped it with a lavender straight border and sheer brown ribbon and bow.  I also added a few multi-colored gems to the card.  So, that is it, my ice cream card.

A Birthday Tag For My Mom

Next week, my mom will be celebrating her 87th birthday.  I already have her gift purchased and know how I am going to wrap it.  Here is the tag I have made to go along with her gift.

I used Bo Bunny paper stack Garden Girl to create the tag.  The tag was cut in two sizes from the Cricut ART PHILOSOPHY cartridge.  I created and added an additional mat to the tag.  This mat was made using the Harlequin Script Background Mat from Just Rite Stampers.  This is a beautiful large background mat.

Here is a photo of the little mat on the tag.  I rounded the corners of the mat to better fit the tag.

I added some antique ecru lace, from my sewing stash, and a border cutout from the Paper Studio to the bottom of the tag.

For the semtiment label I used two sizes of the Spellbinders Label # 20.  After cutting and embossing, I did a little inking with purple, and copper.  The center of the sentiment label is a scalloped circle also from Spellbinders.  This was cut with ecru paper.  After embossing, I inked it with some copper, olive green, and mauve.  The sentiment is from a birthday stamp set from Just Rite Stampers.  

I used some flowers from my stash to embellish the top of the tag.  To the flowers I added a few leaves  that I punched out with a MS punch.  And to the bottom of the tag, I chose some pink Recollection Flourish gems for the embellishment.

And as you can see I finished the tag by tying a purple ribbon to it and then using a sheer taupe ribbon and bow to adorn it.  I am excited about my mom's upcoming birthday and look forward to the look on her face when she sees her gift.  Come back next week and see how everything was gift wrapped.

Buttons and Brads

Hi Everyone!  It is Wednesday, and time for another challenge at Cooking With Cricut.  This week the challenge is to use Buttons and, or Brads.  So when I made my card, I decided to use both!

I used paper from the 6x6 Bo Bunny stack,  Ambrosia.  I cut these fun shoes from the PAISLEY cartridge.  I used a Cuttlebug folder to emboss the shoes.  After embossing, I did a little inking with a purple, Colorbox ink pad.  The flowers are made with Prima petals and a cut from the PAISLEY cartridge.  They are attached to the shoes with little maroon brads.   The flowers also have been glittered with teal and yellow glitter.

I added four little buttons to the card and tied them with DMC embroidery thread.

 I have such a huge collection of embroidery thread that I love and find so many uses for.  When I was in elementary school, my daddy's mother, Nanny, taught me to embroidery.  I started with linen that had stamped images printed on them and would cross stitch the image.  I still have one of those hanging in a bedroom.  After the cross stitch, I started doing all kinds of embroidery,  counted cross stitch, hardanger, crewel, needlepoint, smocking and the list goes on.   I just happened to be one those people who always has to be doing something with their hands.  So needless to say, I have a stash of all kinds of thread, and yarn.  

I felt like the card needed a little something other than the shoes so I added a border cut with an EK punch and then added a bright yellow ribbon and bow.  

I just think that the sentiment is more than perfect for this card.  It os from K Andrew Designs stamp set "Fashionable Friends".  I cut the sentiment label out with a Spellbinder label #20 and then inked it with yellow and orange Colorbox ink.

This was such a fun card to make.  I always enjoy using the Paisley cartridge,and these bright colors.  And using these bright colors was just so much fun!

I Feel The Love Project for A Homeless Shelter

 I FEEL THE LOVE  project this month is to create birthday cards and decorations for children at a homeless shelter.  You can read all about the project  HERE.

Every month, one of the challenges at Cooking With Cricut is to participate in the I FEEL THE LOVE PROJECT.  I have made a birthday card for a girl and one for a boy.  Here are my cards.

This is a card for a little girl made with papers from Recollections.  The little dog is cut from the PAPER PUPS cartridge.  I added little google eyes to give it a little personality.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is also from PAPER PUPS.  I added a bright orange ribbon and bow to the card along with three little gem flower stickers.  

This card I made for a little boy.  The dog driving the car is cut from the NATE'S ABC"S. And the Happy Birthday sentiment is cut from CAKE BASICS.  All of the paper used is from Recollections.  I added some red ric rac and two little gem starts.

Picture This

It is time for a new challenge at My Sheri Crafts.  This week our challenge is to create a project using this photo for inspiration.

This just says "Summer" to me.  And so I made a card that looks like summer.

I began with a large pitcher of lemonade cut from the SAVORY cartridge.  The glass of lemonade and lemon were cut from the JUST BECAUSE cartridge.  The strawberries were cut from the PRESERVES cartridge.  

I did some inking with yellow on the lemon and lemonade.  The strawberries were inked with red and green.  And the glass and pitcher were inked with light blue.   The pink border was cut with an EK Success border punch.  I topped it with a red and white checked ribbon.  The little sentiment is a stamped I have had for a long time and am not sure where I got it.  And keeping my summer tradition, the paper is from my stash.

Happy Birthday USA

It is so exciting being here in our Nation's Capital on her birthday.  Tonight is the big concert  with fireworks on the mall.  We will be there in our Red, White and Blue.  You can watch the concert live on PBS.  It will do your heart good.

How fitting that theCooking With Cricut challenge this week is HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA use red, white and blue in the project.  Here is a card that I mailed to my parents from here in DC to wish them a Happy 4th of July and to tell my sweet Jack and Magnolia  "Hi"!

The base mat on the card is My Minds Eye paper.  It has little red, white and blue stars on it and it is inked in red.  The double labels are cut from the Spellbinders Label # 1.  Both are inked with Antique Lace.bbThe 4th of July is cut from the INDEPENDENCE DAY cartridge.  The flag trim is some I have had for a long time in my stash.  And the little sparkle starts came from Hobby Lobby.  As simple as this card is, I just love it because it focuses on the most important thing... our nation's birthday!!
